Free water management workshops

As part of its ‘From the Ground Up’ campaign, Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation is offering free technical workshops for stakeholders to learn more about Green Urbanisation – its unique approach to water management that takes sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) to the next level.

Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation is calling for fundamental change in the design of urban developments if the UK is to meet Carbon Net Zero and Biodiversity Net Gain targets and in turn, counteract the impact of climate change.

As part of its ‘From the Ground Up’ campaign, the company is providing free technical workshops for stakeholders to learn more about Green Urbanisation – its unique approach to water management that takes sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) to the next level.

Inspired by nature

Green Urbanisation is built on the fact that there can be no green without blue. By placing water management at the heart of urban design, using surface water and passive irrigation, it’s possible to create truly resilient landscapes that are conditioned to the local climate and can support a denser, more diverse range of fauna.

Inspired by the natural process of re-using surface water, Green Urbanisation uses solutions such as sub-base attenuation tanks to create a ‘self-watering’ ecosystem.

Blue-green roofs

Within a green roof, these systems provide source control for water, which would otherwise run-off to downstream attenuation systems or sewers. Instead, tanks capture, treat and store water, primarily through infiltration, to be used for the purpose of irrigation to areas of vegetation. A system like this can be considered as a part of the overall SuDS management train for the building on which it is installed.
